In the past two days, 2 estuarine crocodiles have been evacuated by residents of Batang Mandiangin, Kinali District, West Pasaman Regency. The first crocodile was evacuated Sunday night (5/2/2023), and one more on Monday morning (6/2/2023). The crocodile in question was arrested for stealing from people's chairs and was considered a danger to the safety of residents.

Head of the West Sumatra Natural Resources Conservation Agency (BKSDA), Ardi Andono, confirmed the crocodile capture incident. He appreciated the actions of the community who had the courage to evacuate two estuarine crocodiles.

Ardi said the crocodile that was caught was almost 5 meters long. After being caught and evacuated by local residents, the crocodile will be taken to the animal transit owned by the West Sumatra BKSDA.

The crocodile was caught by the residents by means of a cold mouth and cold crocodile body and tail, then the crocodile cold to the coconut trunk. Before this crocodile was caught, we caught another crocodile that night." Ardi said.

Seeing that there are repeated incidents of conflict between humans and animals, especially crocodiles, the Head of the West Sumatra BKSDA, Ardi Andono hopes that in West Pasaman Regency a crocodile breeding place will be provided to minimize similar incidents. This is because most of the estuarine crocodile's habitat is in plantations owned by local residents.

"The conflict will recur because transporting residents intersects with crocodile habitat. In the future there needs to be estuarine crocodile breeding in West Pasaman," he said.

Previously there had been 5 cases of human-crocodile conflict during 2023. These conflicts were spread across various regions, namely in Pariaman City 1 case, Padang Pariaman Regency 2 cases, and Pasmana Barat 2 cases.
