Buy video

Two lobster boats on their moorings in Marblehead, Massachusetts, northeast of Boston. One leaves its mooring while the other remains.

This is near Gloucester, Salem, Boston, and Portland, Maine where concerns about Right Whales have forced commercial fishermen to change their gear and remove their traps during the winter. Entanglement in vertical buoy lines associated with pot and trap fishing gear, such as those used by the Gulf of Maine lobster fishery, has been called a leading cause of death, serious injuries, sublethal impacts, and overall decline of North Atlantic right whales. There are many who debate this. There is further anger over the rapid development of offshore wind farms in the same places where lobstermen have been told their traps are causing harm.
