Footage shows an apartment block collapsing in Syria this afternoon (February 6) following the deadly earthquake in neighboring Turkey that has killed at least 1,500 people.

Locals watched as residential building in the city of Jarabulus in east Aleppo was reduced to rubble due to the second earthquake that hit the area on Monday afternoon February 6.

Rescue teams across the region are searching for survivors trapped in the debris of buildings.

The magnitude 7.8 quake was recorded at a depth of 24.1 kilometres some 23 kilometres east of Nurdagi in the Gaziantep province of Turkey near Syria's northern border at 1:17 UTC, the United States Geological Survey (USGS) said.

Government officials said at least 1,500 were killed across Turkey and neighbouring Syria, but the death toll is expected to rise as hundreds more are feared trapped.

The USGS said the quake also jolted Cyprus, Jordan, Lebanon, the United Kingdom, Iraq, Georgia, and Armenia.
