Georgia deputies find an alleged sex offender hiding under a mattress, in Cobb County, Georgia, on Friday, Jan. 20, 2023.

A sex offender who refused to register his address and was being hunted by cops has been found hiding under a mattress.

The Cobb County Sheriff's Office Sex Offender Unit (SOU) and Domestic Violence (DV) team collaborated to arrest the registered sex offender who was hiding inside a family member's apartment on January 20th. Deputies assigned to Domestic Violence were serving a temporary protection order in an apartment complex when they decided to check whether Dameon Alexander, a registered sex offender, was reported to be staying there.
People convicted of these crimes need to constantly register their address so they can be monitored especially if there is a risk of reoffending, and to ensure they stay away from other potential victims.

Alexander was wanted by the Cobb County Sheriff's Office, as well as Cherokee County and Cobb County Probation, for failing to register as a sex offender so that he could be monitored. The DV Deputies contacted SOU and learned more about the car Alexander was known to drive. The automobile was discovered parked in front of the apartment building, according to the police.

The officers then knocked on the door and sought to make contact with persons within the flat, but the apartment was silent so they began banging. Deputy Boassy was standing in the back of the apartment, looking through a small crack in the window and could see Alexander resting on the bed.

When SOU arrived, the two units had already entered the flat. They discovered a female and a child hiding in a restroom.

According to a police press release, Deputies Appleby and Okolovitch visited the master bedroom and inspected the bed. Deputy Okolovitch then lifted up the mattress and discovered Alexander hiding underneath.
Alexander had eluded capture earlier that week when police sought to apprehend him. He was apprehended without incident and sent to the Cobb County Adult Detention Center.
