Democratic Alliance (DA) leader, John Steenhuisen, delivered what the party has touted as the “True” State of the Nation Address. Steenhuisen addressed invited guests and the media at the Centre of the Book in Cape Town’s CBD. The DA’s version of SONA comes ahead of President Cyril Ramaphosa’s State of the Nation Address on Thursday 9 February at 7pm.

Referring to recent polls, Steenhuisen stated South Africa’s are concerned the country may be moving in the wrong direction. Steenhuisen said while DA run governments and municipalities may not be perfect but feels confident that South Africa would be better if it was run at the same level as the government and municipalities controlled by his party.

Steenhuisen said as the country heads to national elections in 2023 citizens face the biggest fork in the road in a generation and believes the only real choice the electorate has is between the ruling African National Congress (ANC) and the DA.
