A 46-year-old man living in Jarada, Odisha, diagnosed with a rare condition that leaves his face looking like it's hanging is pleading for help online.

At a young age, Kushadhwaj Singh was diagnosed with plexiform neurofibromatosis - a condition where tumours form in the tissue that covers and protects the nerves. They can cause severe pain, mobility problems, vision and hearing loss, high blood pressure, and other medical problems.

Kushadhwaj has been living with his mother Saraswati, who after the death of her husband has resorted to begging in order to provide a living for her son.

The mother pleaded: "I am very poor and don't have financial help from anywhere. I cannot see my son crying and suffering. I request you people to extend a helping hand and give my son a new lease of life.

"My son suffers pain while doing simple things in life. He faces difficulties while eating, sleeping, or bathing."

The 46-year-old attempted to find his own source of income by opening a shop but claims he is treated like an outcast due to his looks: "I opened a shop but people refuse to come near me. They hate me and this prohibits me from walking around the village. Children are also scared of me."

The man's mother also said: "People in our neighbourhood are harsh. They make fun of my son. When my husband was alive, we took our son to Cuttack Medical Centre, where the doctors told him that he would not survive.

According to the filmer, Saraswati broke down while sharing that her son had once said that he would prefer committing suicide over living this kind of life. The treatment would cost approximately Rs 75-80 lakhs (USD $90,750.45 - $96,800.48).

A page has been set up to help the family cover the cost of Kushadhwaj's treatment and has over 2,000 donors. It can be found here: https://milaap.org/stories/help-kushadhwaj-singh-g.
