Six people were injured after a leopard went on a rampage inside a courthouse in northern India on Wednesday.

Mayhem erupted at the Ghaziabad District court when the wild cat wandered into the premises on February 8.

The sight of the bloodthirsty beast sent employees running for their lives, with lawyers locking themselves in offices for safety.

However, the uproar only angered the leopard, which mauled a cobbler on the ground floor before roaming the court complex.

Footage shows the fearsome predator snarling at a worker from behind a set of guardrails, while another clip shows a brave group wielding makeshift weapons wrangling the big cat in a corridor.

Cops and forest officials later arrived at the scene with nets, cages, and tranquilisers. The leopard was finally subdued after four hours.

Speaking to local media, Assistant Commissioner of Police Abhishek Srivastav said: 'As per the information received, eight persons sustained injuries, but nobody was seriously injured. While some were hospitalised, others were relieved after first aid.'

Police are coordinating with the Indian Forest Service to turn over the leopard for caretaking.
