This brave 2-year-old boy sipped water as rescue workers attempted to free the boy from a collapsed building in Defne, Turkey.

Footage from February 8 shows the little boy sipping water from a bottle cap.

The boy has been identified as a Syrian national named Muhammad and he even cracked a smile as rescue workers began to work on freeing him.

Once the 2-year-old was freed he was handed over to medics for a health examination.

The boy - a Syrian national called Muhammad - was found half buried in the ruins in Defne, Hatay Province, some 44 hours after the disaster hit. Footage of the rescue - filmed by aid workers - shows Muhammad tightly wedged between pieces of concrete. As he peers anxiously around, one rescuer keeps up a steady flow of water served to the lad sip by sip from a bottle cap.

The boy was handed over to medics after being removed from the rubble. Emergency workers are battling against the clock to save people from collapsed buildings, with the international community sending in numerous experts to assist.

President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said in a speech earlier today (8th February) that 8,754 people are dead and 49,133 injured in Turkey. The total death toll in Turkey and Syria now exceeds 11,200 people, with the latest figures indicating more than 2,530 people dead in Syria. World Health Organization officials have warned that the total death toll could reach 20,000.
