This is the sinister moment a deadly cobra was seen slithering up the wall in a housewife's kitchen when she went to cook rice.

Phapawan Buala was preparing dinner for her family when she noticed the dark figure emerged behind the dish drying rack in Bangkok, Thailand on February 4.

She called the emergency services for help while the snake moved around the sink.

Footage shows a rescue volunteer using a pole with a noose to catch the cobra. In less than half an hour later, the snake was carried out of the home and set for release.

Phapawan, who was too scared to stay in the room while the beast was removed, said: ‘Who knew what could have happened if I touched the glasses to drink water? It was hiding behind the rack.

‘I was relieved my family was unhurt. It was the first time we have seen a snake inside the house.'

The cobra was placed in a sack and taken to the local fire station, where handlers will drive it to the countryside to be released in dense woodland.

Researchers found that 7,000 people are treated for snake bites each year in Thailand. Suchai Suteparuk from the Division of Toxicology at Chulalongkorn University reported that 30 of those die, with cobras being the biggest killer.
