Full of emotion, a migrant worker from Cilacap, Central Java, Indonesia, named Kartika Puspitasari won a lawsuit against her former employer in Hong Kong China for more than USS 110,000 or up to 1.9 billion Rupiah (Indonesian).
Kartika filed a lawsuit because she was a victim of violence and harassment while working in Hong Kong in 2010-2013.
The violence that befell Kartika made headlines a decade ago and sparked protests over the treatment of domestic workers in Hong Kong.
After waiting for a long time, the Hong Kong Court granted her lawsuit on Friday, 10 February 2023. The news of the trial results was immediately received by Kartika via a video call from activists who have accompanied and supported her since the torture case started in 2013.

Kartika currently lives in Padang, West Sumatra with her husband and two children.

The victory was greeted with emotion. While crying, Kartika said that she was very grateful for the victory.

"Alhamdulillah, my lawsuit was granted. I am very grateful…etc..,” said Kartika.

In the torture case, Kartika's former employer, Tai Chi-wai, and his wife, Catherine Au Yuk-shan, were sentenced to prison. Tai was jailed for 3 years and 3 months, while Au was jailed for 5 years and 6 months. **
