A Buddhist monk was arrested and kicked out of monkhood for causing a disturbance while drunk at a bus station in Thailand.

Suphan Khrutvicha, 43, from the Wat Pa Khrueawan temple was detained by cops after he was reported for his drunken ramblings at the bus terminal in Ang Thong province on February 11.

The intoxicated novice monk was spotted roaming around the area and spouting nonsense, frightening concerned bystanders.

Police Captain Prajak Choomyen of the Mueang Ang Thong Police said: 'The man claimed he has been ordained for three to four years, and that he had travelled from Kalasin province. He admitted that he was drunk, but he said he was doing nothing wrong.'

Suphan was then bundled onto the police vehicle, and taken to the Wat Lo Sutthawat temple to meet an abbott.

Footage shows how Suphan prostrated himself in front of the senior monk as a ceremony was performed to remove him from his holy duties.

He traded his robes for civilian clothes, and was driven to a bus station by the police to return to his hometown.
