Footage shows a dead whale that washed ashore in Manasquan, New Jersey, on February 13.

Officials from Clean Ocean Action said the creature on Whiting Avenue beach was the ninth whale found dead along the Jersey Shore on the east coast of the U.S. since December 5 last year.

A spokesman of the action group said: 'This alarming number of deaths is unprecedented in the last half century.

'The only unique factor from previous years, is the excessive scope, scale and magnitude of offshore wind powerplant activity in the region.'

Campaigners believe the rising number of whale deaths is due to an offshore wind development being pushed by Democrat Governor Phil Murphy under the presidency of ailing politician Joe Biden.

Local media reported that Jersey Shore Republican Congressmen Chris Smith and Jeff Van Drew have called for off-shore developments to be halted while the whale deaths are investigated.
