A couple enjoying a romantic time on the beach were knocked over by strong waves.

Footage shows the love birds relaxing on the shore while waiting for the sunset when the tidal waves struck them in Davao Oriental province, the Philippines on February 3.

The pair tried to recover from the amusing fail but more massive currents hit them with onlookers bursting into laughter as they watched them from a distance.

Tourist Mark Jude Robles said the couple was fine and eventually ran away together from the choppy seas.

He said: ‘We were a bit jealous of their sweetness at first but then there was a sudden turn of events. The tides grow at sunset and they sat on the spot where the waves could become massive.

‘They were laughing as they escaped the water that almost pulled them to the depths. I'm sure it was still a memorable experience for them.'
