A hitchhiking monkey was caught on camera stealing food from a moving pickup truck.

The animal jumped onto the passing truck bed when the vehicle slowed down approaching a curve next to woodland in Nakhon Ratchasima province, Thailand on February 12.

Footage shows the aggressive creature rummaging through the stacked boxes of fizzy drinks and bottled water.

However, the monkey gave up after a while as it could not seem to open the thick plastic that covered the soda.

Amused motorist Darunee Chinsiri said: "It was hanging from a tree then jumped and landed on our truck. The monkey was very clever because it chose our truck. We were carrying many snacks. However, the monkey could not open them. He was impatient and left later".

The monkey was seen jumping off the moving truck and safely landing on the concrete road unhurt.
