A woman claims her ex-fiancé left her in over £8,000 of debt and even used her credit card to pay for half the cost of the engagement ring.

Katherine Lemus, 32, recently went viral after posting about a shocking break-up with her high school sweetheart, racking up 2.7 million views on TikTok.

In the clip, the bakery owner from Toronto, Canada, explains how her former partner of nine years ditched her over the phone five months into their engagement.

She claims he admitted to not only cheating on her but also racking up over £8,000 ($10,000 USD) in debt.

In an attempt to pay it off, Katherine tried to sell the engagement ring he had given her but was dealt another blow when the shop worker allegedly told her half of the cost was charged to her credit card.

“My ex broke up with me over the phone after confessing he was cheating on me,” she told NeedToKnow.online.

“I was blindsided.

“I tried to sell the ring and was offered pennies so I posted and sold it for basically $1,000 to someone off Craigslist.

“My ex also left me in around $10,000 debt from a credit card I gave him access to.

“My family and friends were livid.

“They were so shocked because it was a total change from the person they knew.

“I am still finding out things to this day, such as more girls he cheated on me with and he tried to be friends with my friends but clearly that didn’t work out.”

Katherine shared her story online, where fellow users have shared their disbelief at what happened to her, as well as horror stories of their own.

“When he sold his motorcycle to prove he loved me to buy my ring and then I remembered I bought the motorcycle…,” wrote one user.

Another person said: “Mine wasn’t even real gold. I went to sell it thinking I would get good money from it, imagine my embarrassment!”

“Mine was bought on a loan from his ex-wife, that she’s still paying off!” another user commented.

Kat split from her ex in 2014 after nearly a decade together.

Thankfully, however, something positive did come out of the debacle.

The incident inspired her to start her own business, a cake bakery called Sugar Snob, to repay the debt and boost her credit score.

She’s now debt-free and happily married to another man, who she met five months after the breakup, tying the knot in 2019.

Kat added: “I have paid it all off and funny enough, it’s the reason I started baking because I needed to pay it off and be able to boost my bad credit score to buy a home.

“He [my husband] knew about everything when we first met but he’s amazing and supportive and the total opposite of my ex.

"I feel relieved it's over because it put me in such a bad place mentally and I'm only speaking about it now.”
