An elephant, which has grown fond of rice, broke the metal door of a depot to steal food. A CCTV camera at a government-owned depot near Belur in the State of Karnataka, India, filmed the elephant punching out a huge hole in the metal door with its trunk and then dragging out two sacks of rice. It had its fill and left on its own. According to T. Manjunath, a local food department official, 50 quintals of rice and wheat had been kept at the depot to distribute to poor families as part of a government scheme. He informed that the elephant had earlier raided the depot in April last year and stolen grain. It has grown fond of rice, he said.
