An adventurous motorist drove through a raging dust devil tornado.

Footage shows the sedan cutting across the brown twister ripping through an empty field in the Philippines on February 12.

Onlooker Ayong said he was on a stop-over from cycling with friends when the weather phenomenon formed across their resting area.

He said: ‘We stopped by the trees to rest in the shade and drink water. It was so hot that day.

‘The winds blew and soon there was a huge tornado. But instead of fleeing the car driver went inside it like.'

Dust devil tornadoes are types of whirlwinds that form when the sun heats a patch of land and the air above becomes warmer and rises quickly.

Cooler air then moves into the low-pressure gap left by the rising warm air. The new drafts of cooler air also heat up and rise and the cycle continues, picking up dust and debris and making the spiral visible.

They are not as dangerous as supercell tornadoes, which can cause severe damage.
