In a sure sign of spring, the City of Delray Beach, Florida, US, announced that its public beach has become home to the first sea turtle nest of the 2023 season.

A leatherback turtle emerged from the ocean just north of Casuarina Road, dug a hole in the sand, laid her eggs, buried them, and returned to the sea.

Thousands of sea turtles nest on Florida beaches between March and October. The eggs incubate for about 60 days, then the sea turtle hatchlings emerge from the sand and make a mad dash to the ocean.

The footage was filmed in July 2022 in Delray Beach.
