Devotees cover themselves in chilli powder, coconut water, milk, and curd during a bizarre ritual in Auroville, Tamil Nadu.

Footage captured on February 18 a priest smothering a group of four men in water, milk, curd, sandalwood water, and coconut water.

Around 50kg of chilli powder was poured of the devotees. One of them even opened their eyes and drank the hot powder that was mixed with water.

The locals believe this ritual is a way of giving thanks to the goddess Angala Parameshwari for all things good in life.

India is a land of temples and devotees  hurt  themselves for pleasing their goddess. They believe and chose this method to thank their diety for giving all the good things in life. As a part of Temple festival celebration devotees performed a bizarre ritual in Auroville area of the Union territory Pudhucherry. 
Few devotees were chosen for this ritual. At first the priest poured water, milk, Curd, Sandalwood water, Tender coconut water on the devotees. Later the Priest poured 50 kilogram of chilli powder that is mixed in the water on them. One of the devotees opened his eyes and even drank the chilly powder that was mixed in water. Later water was poured on themselves.
