A deadly banded krait snake was caught in a canal next to a row of homes.

The highly venomous yellow and black striped serpent concealed itself under a rusty metal sheet and dried leaves in Ratchaburi province, Thailand on January 23.

A snake rescue officer was called to the scene to catch the deadly creature when worried residents noticed it slithering in the grass.

Footage shows the brave wildlife handler searching for the snake in the piles of trash. He used a pole to take it to the road before holding it gently with only gloves as protection.

Onlooker Rung said: ‘It was big but what made us scared was that it looked different from the other snakes we normally see. It had bright colours, which is a warning sign.

‘We immediately thought that it could be venomous because of its colour.'

The banded krait was taken by the officer to be released back into into woodland. It was unhurt as well as the residents who lived near the canal.

The banded krait is one of the largest kraits found in the Indian subcontinent and Southeast Asia. Its bite can be deadly to humans and is said to have several times more venomous than the cobra.
