A driver who was allegedly falling asleep at the wheel crashed into two shops and injured two people.

Police Corporal Sahasawan Chaiyamalee, 23, from the Phanom Sarakham Police Station was driving home after dropping off his girlfriend for work in Chachoengsao province on February 10.

As he coasted along the road, he allegedly nodded off, causing his pickup truck to accelerate and crash into a row of shops.

CCTV footage shows how the vehicle veered off the lane and clipped a barbecue stall before smashing into a furniture store.

Two people, including Sahasawan, were reported injured.

Bystander Lamphun Panyadee, 58, also sustained minor wounds and was tended to by paramedics.

Her husband Somdee Panyadee, 63, said: 'I was standing in front of our store when I heard a loud noise coming from the roadside. When I saw the truck headed towards us, I shouted at my wife to jump out of the way.'

Police are now investigating the cause of the accident. They said that Corporal Sahasawan had blamed tiredness for the accident.
