Tourists flock to China's first penguin-themed restaurant
The first penguin-themed restaurant officially opened in eastern China.
Video filmed in the city of Hangzhou in Zhejiang Province on February 20 shows some gentoo penguins being fed by the children and some swimming in a pool.
The 800-square-metre restaurant located on the sixth floor of the Zhongda Intime Shopping Mall features 12 gentoo penguins as its stars.
According to the restaurant's manager, the penguins came from a gentoo penguin breeding centre. He said: "The restaurant is committed to promoting penguin education and environmental protection, among other initiatives, in the hopes of creating a warm home for the penguins in Hangzhou."
Penguins are known for their strong sense of family. They travel long distances to the sea to find food for their families and offspring and then journey through snow and ice to reunite with their loved ones.
In the design of the penguin restaurant, the path that penguins take to return home was used as a reference. The restaurant is divided into three areas, the ice zone, the snow zone, and the rock zone, to recreate the journey of the penguins.
The restaurant's manager said: "We hope that customers can experience the warmth of family while dining, especially children who can read stories about penguins and their families and learn to cherish their own families and loved ones."
