Fossil hunter unboxes 180-million-year-old fossil from United Kingdom
xFootage filmed on February 19 shows a fossil hunter from Paraparaumu, New Zealand unboxing a 180-million-year-old fossil found off the coast of Yorkshire, United Kingdom.
The filmer told Newsflare: "I was sent a box of roughly 180-million-year-old ammonites from the Yorkshire coast in the UK and decided to prep one using an air scribe. This tool is powered by an air compressor and works like a very small jackhammer, knocking chips of the rock away from the fossil without ever touching the fossil. The liquid being painted on is B72 paraloid which is consolidant that protects the fossil and gives it a nice shine. It took just over an hour to prep this fossil. It is a Dactylioceras ammonite."
