On February 19, 2023, gunfire broke out along the route of the Mardi Gras parade in New Orleans, Louisiana. One teen was killed and a 4-year-old girl was hurt. Even though there were a lot of police around, the incident still happened. Police Superintendent Michelle Woodfork said that a 21-year-old man was quickly arrested and that two guns were found at the scene.

Initially, the man was charged with illegally carrying a weapon, but police later upgraded the charge to second-degree murder. The investigation is still going on, and Woodfork said that homicide investigators are trying to find out more about the shooting, such as why it happened and whether or not there was more than one shooter.

The incident shocked onlookers and participants at the annual Mardi Gras celebration. The parade, which is a well-loved New Orleans tradition, was going on as usual, with people in colorful costumes throwing beads and other small items to the cheering crowds. However, the festivities were abruptly cut short by the sound of gunfire.

Eyewitnesses said that after the shooting, there was chaos and confusion as people ran for cover and first responders rushed to the scene. The video captured by @sothathappnd, which shows the aftermath of the incident on St. Charles Ave. and Terpsichore Street, has been widely shared on social media, offering a glimpse into the aftermath of the tragedy.
