Eight cops have been safely rescued after their helicopter crashed in a forest in Indonesia.

The officers were on the Bell 412 SP helicopter to escort former Indonesian Vice President Jusuf Kalla when they were forced to make an emergency landing due to inclement weather on February 19.

The helicopter crashed in a forested area in the Kerinci Regency of Jambi province, with poor visibility and rain impeding rescue efforts.

Rescuers finally carried out a successful evacuation on Tuesday, February 21.

Dramatic footage shows an air force Super Puma helicopter carrying out the medevac of Jambi Police Chief Inspector General Rusdi Hartono, who suffered a fractured arm.

The Indonesian National Armed Forces Fast Action Command said in a statement: 'Due to the condition of the regional police chief, he had to be lifted at an angle, resulting in the stretcher spinning as it was loaded onto the helicopter.'

The rest of the crash victims were also safely rescued and taken to hospitals.
