The happy pooch became excited as the stadium cheered during the event at a sports stadium in Roi Et province, Thailand, on February 17.

He could not resist sprinting alongside young athletes and joined them for the final 100 metres of the team relay race, setting up a tense photo finish.

Footage shows the dog joining the runners, drawing laughs among the crowd of supporters.

Supporter Patiporn Duangkasorn said: "The dog came from the other side of the field and cut through the race. It was so funny".

The event was paused briefly to allow the dog to return to its owner.
