Shocked cleaners found a massive colony of termites in an elderly customer's seriously-infested mattress.

The workers started decluttering the bed when they noticed parts of the wooden bed chipping off in Surat Thani province, Thailand on February 11.

They swept off the disintegrating parts until they discovered the ecosystem thriving on the furniture.

Footage shows the cleaners ripping the mattress apart which had almost dissolved with termites tunnelling through it.

The cleaning service boss Kesini Kumanon said: ‘The owner of the house is a sick old man. The house was not maintained because of that.'

The mattress and the bed were burned off in the yard to prevent the infestation from spreading.
