Mysterious metal sphere found in Japan causes concerns after 'spy balloons'
A mysterious metal sphere washed ashore on Enshu beach, Hamamatsu, Japan, causing concerns and triggering a wave of conspiracy theories.
Japanese authorities said they don't know what the orangey-brown sphere is, nor where it came from. The object measures 1.5 metres in diameter.
The area was cordoned off by the police to allow experts to examine it and ensure the sphere was not a bomb. Japan's self-defense forces have been notified.
The discovery of the sphere comes at a delicate time for international relations. Recently leaders of the US, Latin America, the UK, and Japan have expressed their concerns over Chinese "spy balloons" entering their airspace. China denies all espionage allegations and claims that the balloons are civilian airships.
