This is the heartwarming moment a hungry pet cat stuck on the roof of a shrine for two days was rescued in Thailand.

The three-year-old female cat Chi Chi was found trapped near the roof of the Samakee Kankusol Foundation's Chinese shrine in Tak province on February 20.

Workers called a rescue team to save the feline, but it cowered away from the handlers when they came near.

However, Chi Chi appeared to calm down upon hearing the shrine staff's voices, and later allowed itself to be carried down.

Chi Chi's caretaker Sei-ei, 35, happily cradled her pet upon their reunion.

She took the cat home and gave it food and water.

Sei-ei said: 'Chi Chi disappeared for two days. I found her at dawn and I tried to rescue her myself, but I couldn't reach her, so I called a rescue team for help.'

She added that Chi Chi might have been chasing after a bird, but could not come back down.
