This is the terrifying moment a deadly cobra slithered over to a couple sitting on a patio.

The 8ft-long venomous serpent emerged from the heap of water containers while the duo were having an afternoon picnic in the garden in Songkhla province, Thailand on February 23.

It crept towards the woman who was snacking on some fruit as her brother was busy scrolling on his phone.

Chilling CCTV footage shows the snake crawling towards the residents before the man saw it in the corner of his eye and yelled with shock.

He quickly scampered away from the reptile as it turned back and darted away.

House owner Thitima said: ‘It was really scary. You could hear my mother and uncle shouting for help.'

Thitima's mum Garn, 62, and her brother leapt off the mat and watched as the snake went to hide under a cabinet.

It was later caught and released back into the wild.

No one was hurt, but Thitima added her mum was terrified.

She said: ‘She wouldn't be alone in the garden now. She's getting old and being bitten by a venomous snake would be dangerous.'

Researchers found that 7,000 people are treated for snake bites each year in Thailand. Suchai Suteparuk from the Division of Toxicology at Chulalongkorn University reported that 30 of those die, with cobras being the biggest killer.
