This is the shocking moment an out-of-control truck crashed into a bamboo gazebo on the roadside in Thailand.

Footage shows the white Isuzu hitting a traffic light before ploughing through the wooden hut while driving near the entrance of the Wat Thai Hat temple in Samut Songkhram on February 24 evening.

The loud crash drew the attention of nearby residents, who approached to inspect the accident, but the six-wheeler immediately fled the scene with its left front tire destroyed.

The truck driver allegedly ignored pursuing police and carried on driving across the road, over a bridge, and through an intersection before it was finally intercepted in the Muang District.

Cops detained the driver Na, 38, a Burmese national who was allegedly intoxicated.

Na said he had just finished dropping off a colleague at the Thai Hat subdistrict and had downed half a bottle of liquor before heading back to his company. As he coasted along the road, he 'unknowingly' crashed into the gazebo.

He said he was afraid the residents would beat him for the damage he caused so he escaped from the scene.

Auraphol Ngamphueak, the president of the Thai Hat Subdistrict Administrative Organization, said the driver had also damaged a traffic light, two cement bases, and two broken rubbish bins totalling around 300,000 baht (8,537 USD) in damages.

Police said Na will be forced to repay the cost of the damage and charged with drunk driving, reckless driving causing damage to government property, and leaving the scene of an accident without reporting to authorities.
