A forest fire in south-central Chile has caused extensive damage and loss of life. The Biobio region was hit hardest, but neighboring regions were also severely impacted.

As of February 16, 2023, it is reported about 219 active fires and about 435,000 hectares burnt. The wildfire has resulted in 25 deaths, over 3000 injured victims, over 2500 damaged homes, and many forest animals dying or injured. Foreign countries, including Argentina, Mexico, and Ecuador, have sent firefighting specialists to help. The Chilean president, Gabriel Boric, has urged citizens to be united in their response to the forest fire and has expressed gratitude for the support received.
