A group of protesters dressed as mermaids in response to building work to create several holiday homes on cliffs in Newquay, UK.

Footage from March 3 shows the protesters on Whipsiderry beach posing with a sign that read, "Don't kill our cliffs!"

Work is being carried out to fill sea caves with concrete and drill steel rods into the cliff face.

According to the filmer: "The developers have gained consent to use an area of Duchy of Cornwall owned beachfront to access the base of the over 100-foot cliffs.

"The highly sensitive cove is Newquay's last un-commercialised seaside location."

Mermaids are spotted at Whipsiderry beach in support of the save our cliffs campaign. Work is stopped today on a highly unpopular attempt to fill sea caves with concrete and drill steel rods into the cliff face. The works are to support the foundations of several new ultra luxury cliff top homes. The developers have gained consent to use an area of Duchy of Cornwall owned beach front to access the base of the over 100 foot cliffs. The highly sensitive cove is Newquay's last un-commercialised seaside location. The cliff face currently has amber list protected Fulmar sea birds already in nesting places. The ultra rare Cornish Chough is in close proximity to this area having been spotted in the last few days. Hundreds of concerned locals are repeatedly demonstrating at the location and protesters have been filmed being dragged across the beach by security staff employed by the developers. The Duchy of Cornwall have sent out an email response to the effect that as all the work has been correctly authorised they have no grounds to withdraw permission.
