Former Wild Boars teammates attend funeral of former captain Dom
Former Wild Boars teammates attended the funeral of their former captain Duangphet 'Dom' Phromthep.
The three-day ceremony was held for the later footballer, who died age 17, at Wat Phra That Doi Wao temple in Chiang Rai province, Thailand starting on March 4.
More than 100 mourners, including Dom's friends, footballers from the Ekkapol Academy, and Wild Boars coaches Nopparat Kanthawong and Ekkapol Chanthawong, attended to pay their respects to the athlete as they prayed for his repose.
Several players that were trapped in the cave with him also attended.
On March 6, they marched towards the Mekong River to ride boats, bearing flowers, footballs, portraits, and the urn carrying Dom's ashes.
The container was placed on a boat and left to drift into the water.
Duangphet had died on February 14 in an apparent accident in his dorm at the Brooke House College football academy in Market Harborough, Leicestershire. The cause of his sudden death was not specified.
Duangphet was the former captain of the Wild Boars football team in Thailand. The group were rescued from the Tham Luang Cave in June 2018, following an intense mission that gripped the world.
Duangphet received a scholarship from the Sport Education Project and the Zico Foundation by Thai football legend Kiatisuk 'Zico' Senamuang.
