Election campaign posters flew off of a truck and narrowly missed oncoming vehicles.

The modified pickup was carrying dozens of 5ft by 4ft boards on its cargo bed while travelling on a motorway in Samut Songkram province, Thailand on March 7.

But as the light materials were uncovered and they were tied down haphazardly, winds quickly blew them away the vehicle accelerated.

Footage shows the unsecured posters flying off the back of the truck.

Shocked rider Jakalin Lohitanon, who recorded the incident, said: ‘It would have hit my head if I was riding closer to the pickup truck. People should be more responsible while using the road.'

Two boards fell off the truck before the driver realised what had happened. He pulled over to the side and Jakalin went on his way.

Thailand has one of the world's worst road safety records. Ministers have set the goal of reducing fatalities from 32.7 deaths per 100,000 people to 12 per 100,000 by 2027.

However, a lack of road safety education in schools, cheap loans for cars, notoriously easy driving tests, police failures to enforce road laws as well as endemic corruption and chronic under-investment in infrastructure hamper the efforts.
