A terrified driver found a huge crocodile sleeping on the road - that started them when it whipped its tails and ran into a ditch.

Buahom Wupin was enjoying the sunset on a trip to the mountains with friends when they noticed a mysterious black figure blocking the righthand lane in Nakhon Sawan province, Thailand on March 6.

As they moved closer they realised it was a deadly 8ft-long reptile stretched out across the concrete.

Footage shows the creature suddenly snapping into life as they approached it before scampering into the ditch.

Buahom said: ‘I was startled by the sudden movements. I thought it would lunge at the car but instead, it fled.'

The creature disappeared behind thick grass. Buahom said there was a pond nearby.

She said: ‘People should be careful boating and fishing in these parts. The view is really beautiful but dangerous.'
