A devastating fire broke out at Pertamina's Plumpang fuel storage depot in Jakarta on Friday night, killing at least 17 people and injuring 60 others. The fire quickly spread to nearby houses, sending residents in the densely populated area into a panic. Hundreds of people living in residential areas near the depot had to be evacuated.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but Pertamina, the state-owned energy company, said a pipe leak was detected before the fire broke out. The company has promised to cooperate with the investigation to determine the cause of the tragedy.

The fire started at around 8 pm local time and quickly engulfed the fuel depot, sending huge flames and thick black smoke into the air. The blaze spread to nearby residential areas, causing panic and chaos among the residents. Firefighters worked tirelessly to put out the flames, but the inferno continued for several hours.

The North Jakarta Red Cross reported that 342 people had been evacuated from the affected areas and that four tents were set up to shelter the displaced. Many of the injured suffered severe burns and were rushed to nearby hospitals for treatment.
