A group of around 40 fishermen were rescued after they were carried away by an ice floe off the coast of Russia's Sakhalin.

The group were fishing near the village on March 5 of Starodubskoye when the ice suddenly broke.

Emergency services rushed to the scene and rescued the fishermen.

On March 5, 2023, a group of 18 fishermen were carried away on an ice floe off the coast of Sakhalin, Russia. The incident occurred as almost two dozen fishermen were capturing fish along the coast from the village of Starodubskoye to Vzmorye, and the ice broke suddenly.

As soon as the authorities were informed, the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Emergency Situations for the Sakhalin Region took immediate action. The GIMS, doctors, and law enforcement agencies quickly moved to the scene, and rescuers left the regional center to assist the fishermen.

After some time, the 18 fishermen were successfully removed from the torn-off ice floe, and they were reunited with their families. This was a significant relief to both the authorities and the fishermen's loved ones, who were no doubt anxious and worried during the ordeal.
