A large pregnant cobra was caught nesting in a family's garden.

The 11ft-long creature sparked panic when she was seen sticking her head out of the space under smashed tiles in the yard in Songkhla province, Thailand on February 8.

Rescue volunteers went to the property to remove the venomous creature that was about to lay her eggs soon.

Footage shows the expectant snake being hooked on the neck during the operation. In another clip, the defiant creature resisted the rescuers despite being wounded upon hitting a sharp edge in the tile while trying to escape.

The officers also found a second snake which was a male and believed to be the mate of the pregnant cobra.

House owner Satanan Petkaew said: ‘The female cobra was fierce and crashed onto sharp tiles. She was injured because of it but did not stop.

‘Maybe she was being protective of the eggs inside her. She tried to escape so there was blood on the floor.'

The cobras were taken back to the wildlife centre to rehabilitate as the mother snake was injured and about to lay the eggs soon.

Satanan said: ‘We were shocked when we found not one but two snakes here. We will do a general cleaning in case there are more snakes that are hiding around.'
