A rollercoaster stalled mid-way through the ride leaving passengers stranded on the tracks at at theme park in Indonesia.

Tourists at the Dunia Fantasi (Dufan) amusement park in North Jakarta were stuck on the 'Halilintar' thrill ride when it stopped at an incline on March 7.

The passengers were later asked to get up from their seats, with park staff assisting them down emergency ladders.

Ariyadi Eko Nugroho, spokeman for the Pembangunan Jaya Ancol waterfront complex which Dufan is part of, said: ‘That happened on Tuesday at 2 PM. We confirm that it happened. We apologize to Dufan visitors, especially those on the ride and those who were queueing to get on.'

He added that a 'disturbance' believed to be due to engine problems had triggered the roller coaster's emergency safety mechanism that caused it to stop.

He said the ride was fixed and re-opened to visitors at 2:21 PM.
