This is the harrowing moment when devastating floods swept away entire homes in Indonesia.

After heavy rain on March 9, the Lematang River burst its banks in the Lahat District of South Sumatra province, causing surging waters to demolish houses.

The fast-flowing currents can be seen slamming into a bridge, dumping mud onto the deck as villagers fled for their lives.

According to the Lahat Regional Disaster Management Agency, the worst flooding occurred in Kebang Agung village, where 26 homes were washed away, and 16 other properties were damaged.

Residents were forced to navigate waist-deep floods that inundated their homes.

Ansori, the Emergency Division Head at the South Sumatra Regional Disaster Management Agency, stated: "We have dispatched a team to the disaster-affected location to provide assistance to residents and gather further information."

Local media, citing the National Agency for Disaster Countermeasure, reported that at least one individual died as a result of the floods.

Indonesia's Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysical Agency predicted light to moderate rains in the Lahat Regency until March 11.
