Members of the Tibetan Youth Congress held a protest on Friday near the Chinese embassy in Delhi in recognition of the 64th Tibetan National Uprising Day. They attempted to march towards the embassy while yelling anti-Chinese chants, including "hardline policies" and "illegal occupation of Tibet. Holding Tibetan flags, posters, and banners with "Free Tibet" written on them, the protesters gathered at the sprawling lawns outside the embassy and raised pro-freedom slogans.

The Delhi Police had put up barricades around 2 km from the embassy and imposed Section 144 of the CrPC, which prohibits the assembly of four or more people, in the area as a preventive measure. several of the protestors were detained and taken to Mandir Marg police station as they tried to march toward the embassy. All the protesters were detained by Delhi Police while some were dragged and bundled into buses parked nearby.

A scuffle broke out between the protestors and police, compelling the Delhi Police officials to use force. The protestors came out in huge numbers demanding a free Tibet.
