Big Bear City flooded as heavy rains hit California
Parts of California were hit by heavy rains and flooding when an 'atmospheric river' drenched the state on Saturday March 11.
One part of Big Bear City was inundated with water coming down from the mountain, which formed a small river at the location in this video.
Atmospheric rivers are long, relatively narrow bands of moisture -- much like rivers in the sky -- that transport water vapour from the tropics to cooler places where that moisture falls as precipitation. They can be accompanied by strong winds.
Another atmospheric river is expected to hit the state on Monday.
