Dame Margaret Hodge speaks at London protest for Israeli democracy
Dame Margaret Eve Hodge gave a speech at a protest for Israeli democracy on Parliament Square in London on Sunday 12 March.
Hodge, a member of the UK's House of Lords, joined hundreds of protesters opposing plans by Israel's new far-right government to allow parliament to overturn decisions by the Supreme Court and the government to have the final say over judicial appointments.
One fear protesters have about the legal changes is be that LGBT+ rights could be erased by a parliamentary vote -- a concern Hodge touched upon in her speech.
It was one of many ongoing protests around the world against the proposals, including 10 straight weekends of protest in Israel itself.
Hodge said that not standing up for democracy in Israel would betray Jews around the world.
She was loudly cheered and applauded by the crowd.
