Brave cyclists rode through a dust devil tornado ripping through a bike track.

Norly Capanzana visited the area with his biking buddies for a weekend ride in Las Pinas City, the Philippines on March 5 when they encountered the twister.

Gusty winds blew away white dust as they approached the abandoned land being used for stunt riders, before it evolved into a funnel-shaped figure.

Footage shows the rotating 20ft-tall weather phenomenon as it engulfed the cyclists inside the thick blanket of a smoke-like storm.

Norly said: ‘We thought it was only a regular windy day until it started rotating. Everything happened so fast. We were terrified.'

The dust obscured their vision so Norly carefully steered his bicycle away from it.

However, he said the dust devil only lasted a minute and quickly dissolved.

He said: ‘It was the first time I had seen something like that. We didn't know what to do, but we were relieved it was gone immediately.'

No one was hurt, and the cycling group continued with their trip.

Dust devil tornadoes are types of whirlwinds that form when the sun heats a patch of land and the air above becomes warmer and rises quickly.

Cooler air then moves into the low-pressure gap left by the rising warm air. The new drafts of cooler air also heat up and rise and the cycle continues, picking up dust and debris and making the spiral visible.

They are less dangerous than supercell tornadoes, which can cause severe damage.
