A jilted boyfriend has been arrested for allegedly murdering a Thai woman and mutilating her genitals after he was denied sex.

Apichai Ritkla, 45, was detained by cops for reportedly killing Phuen Boonyai, 49, who was found dead in a house in Surin province, Thailand on March 9.

Phuen's 26-year-old son had visited the home to deliver some food when he smelled a foul stench from a storage room barricaded with large rocks.

He opened the door and found his mum lying in a pool of blood. Her bra was reportedly lifted over her chest while there were cuts on her genitalia. Her body had already begun to decompose.

The son, who requested not to be named, told cops he had not heard from his mum for three days before she was found dead.

An autopsy revealed that Phuen had died by strangulation, and the wounds on her genitals were made after death.

Cops summoned two men for interrogation as they were said to have been in romatinc relationships the deceased.

They arrested Apichai Ritkla, 45, after learning he had been drinking at Phuen's house before she died. Phuen's son also claimed Apichai had been sexually harassing her several times.

Apichai has allegedly admitted to the crime, telling police he killed his former girlfriend because she refused to have sex with him.

He said she tried to resist him, so he choked her to death before 'slicing her genitalia and putting it in a bag to throw away.'

Police took him to re-enact the grisly murder as furious neighbours and relatives cursed at him.

Apichai has been charged with murder, attempted rape, and hiding a corpse.

Police Colonel Rattawit Anandilokrit, superintendent of Buachet Police Station, said: 'The suspect repeatedly made sexually inappropriate remarks and also tried to have sex with the victim but she refused.

'He pulled her down from the bed before climbing on top of her to remove her pants and top.

'When she resisted, he strangled her to death and wrapped her corpse in a blanket before moving it to the storage room.

'The suspect claimed he has been wooing the victim for three years, but she has been refusing him.'

Officers believe Apichai to be the murderer based on his confession and evidence. However, they are still waiting for test results comparing Phuen's DNA with samples found at the scene.

Phuen's funeral was held on March 13 at the Wat O Thalan Wararam in Surin province.
