Junior doctor strike outside Brighton hospital

Junior doctors across the UK have walked out in a national strike action, gathering outside the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton to demand better pay and conditions for patients on March 14.

The British Medical Association (BMA) is leading the strike, calling on the government to address the 26% pay cut junior doctors have experienced since 2008-09.

The BMA has pointed out that newly qualified medics make less than a barista at Pret a Manger, which recently announced an hourly pay rate of up to £14.10. The union's advertising campaign highlights the fact that junior doctors earn just £14.09 per hour.

The strike has been sparked by a dispute with the government over pay and conditions. Junior doctors say they are not being paid fairly for the work they do, and that patient care is being compromised as a result. The BMA is calling on the government to restore pay rates to their pre-2008 levels, in order to ensure that junior doctors can afford to live and work in the UK.
