The movement of homeless workers sets up camp in front of the São Paulo City Hall

Hundreds of people linked to the Homeless Workers Movement (MTST) set up a camp with a solidarity kitchen in front of the São Paulo City Hall, in the center of the city, to protest for decent housing, for provisions for families made homeless by recent floods in the city and for unfulfilled agreements by the current and previous governments for improvements in their living conditions.

The camp is taking place in rotation for about 1000 people as explained by Débora, one of the organizers of the protest, she also comments that the families will take turns on a 24x7 basis until their demands are met.



SOT 00:31:00 –– Débora: the MTST is a movement that fights for housing, we've been in this fight for 25 years and today we're here to demand from the city hall a commitment to hiring housing policies, we've been suffering at a nationally, both at the federal level with the Bolsonaro government, which ended housing policies, as well as the former state government and now also with the mayor, our MTST occupations had negotiations here, the mayor had committed to making it feasible and today he he's taking a step back and saying he won't do it (he won't do it).
