A cow was rescued after getting stuck in deep mud in Thailand.

The bovine named Mae Nhok, 16, was found by villagers mired in a patch of mud at the Regional Special Education Centre 12 in Chonburi province on March 14.

They tried to haul the farm animal themselves, but she was too heavy. A rescue team went to the site after receiving a report at 6:30 PM.

Ten volunteers flipped Mae Nhok sideways before using a net and some ropes to haul her out of the mud. The rescue mission took around one hour to accomplish.

There were no visible wounds on the cow, leading the team to believe she was exhausted from being trapped.

Villagers gave her saline water to help her recover her strength.

Mae Nhok's caretaker Attapol Thammacharoen, 29, said she was rescued from a slaughterhouse and given to the centre for pupils to study.

Two other cows had stayed with her for a decade, but passed away last year. They were buried some 20 metres away from the rescue site.

Attapol said Mae Nhok had been exhibiting signs of sadness and lethargy, leading staff to believe that she missed her friends and was likely also experiencing the effects of ageing or illness.
