Rescuers rappeled down a 32ft well to save a pet cat that had fallen while chasing a rat.

Villagers called the Phum Duang Sampan rescue team to assist with the mission after the brown-and-white moggie plunged down the deep shaft in Surat Thani province, Thailand, on March 5.

Footage shows the team securing the pulleys, with a volunteer lowering himself down the well. He later emerged with the pet cat safely in a sack.

The feline's owners believe it had been chasing a rat through the area, but had fallen when it tried to pounce on its prey.
